The City is having a special meeting this week to discuss the lease of the Athens Theater by Main Street Marketing, Inc., commonly known as Main Street.
The theater is owned by private individuals. Main Street is a private organization. Thus, the need for a special City meeting is unclear.
If the City has no involvement, then the special meeting is a waste of time. The Commission should be careful to adjourn promptly without consideration of other unadvertised business.
If the City has involvement in this deal, then the City would be prudent to defer consideration until the Commission has consulted with an attorney who is not a party to the proposed transaction.
I trust that the City will act prudently in this matter.
